‘Natural dyeing’ is a technique that uses colorants derived from plants, invertebrates or minerals. India’s expertise in vegetable dyes, in fact, dates back to the Vedic Civilization. The most important characteristics of natural dyes are their bio-biodegradability and Eco-friendly natural. Anything natural will degrade automatically and will not produce any toxic effects.
Plant based natural dyes are derived from root, leaf, bark, trunk or fruits of plants. As per available survey reveals that there are as many as 500 plant species which have been identifided as useful sources of dyes.
